Located in Emeryville, California, Pixar Animation Studios, now part of the Disney Group, has created award-winning animated feature films, as well as short films for more than 25 years.
We both use state-of-the-art computer technology to produce 3-dimensional animations. In fact, a lot of the software used by 3D studios such as ours, derives from Pixar’s continuing research & development into new CGI technology.
We also have the same creative approach, and the same enthusiasm for our work here at Blue Cube Studios. We constantly strive to make our images and animations more realistic than the last, and we’re consistently developing new workflows and techniques.
The difference is that we work with architects, developers and marketing agencies across the UK to produce highly realistic Computer Generated Images (CGIs) to show off their drawings and development designs to potential customers, while Pixar make animated movies like; Toy Story 1/2/3, Cars 1 & 2, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, and more recently Tangled, Big Hero 6 and Frozen as part of their new partnership with Disney.
Do you know anything about the history of Pixar? Well briefly, Pixar started off in 1979 as Lucasfilm’s Computer Division with the aim of developing computer technology for the film industry. The first short film they created was ‘The Adventures of Andre & Wally B.’ which featured groundbreaking technology such as complex flexible characters, hand-painted, textures and motion blur. In 1986, Steve Jobs bought the Computer Graphics Division from the owner, George Lucas, and established an independent company called ‘Pixar’.
Pixar used the rapidly developing technology to produce ‘Knick Knack’ in 1989, the first of the company’s animations to be produced in stereoscopic 3D. At that time, the first commercial version of RenderMan was released and it soon became the industry standard software for rendering computer graphics in films.
