3D Rendering

The process of taking a 3D wireframe CAD model, adding textures, shading and lighting to create a photo-realistic image is also known as 3D Rendering. Powerful workstations perform thousands of calculations, and use shading algorithms to work out the exact colour of each pixel which makes up an image, or CGI. Using 2D drawings, the talented architectural artists at Blue Cube Studios build the 3D wireframe model, and then add all the materials, textures and lighting information. They will then initiate the 3D Rendering process. Often this process can be quite lengthy due to the advanced nature of the lighting and shading calculations required to make a CGI appear realistic to the human eye.

Computer Generated Images for Property

Blue Cube Studios have developed a number of techniques to speed up and enhance the quality of it’s property CGI’s by using cutting edge 3D Rendering technology in combination with a Render Farm. A Render Farm is a large array of high powered processing computers, all linked over a network. High resolution computer generated images for property, which are print quality, are sent to Blue Cube Studios’ Render Farm, which then splits the image into many smaller strips. Each machine can then render the strip assigned to it. Once all strips are rendered then the Render Farm will stitch them together to make a fully rendered 3D CGI.

Unlike many CGI companies, Blue Cube Studios have developed and built their own in-house Render Farm instead of relying just a handful of computers. Render Farms can render high resolution CGI’s, which would normally take 12 hours or more, in under 2 hours. The speed advantages that an in-house Render Farm can bring are even greater when rendering animations. This is particularly useful when rendering computer generated images for property, because the amount of information within a property development is enormous and the detail level needs to be high.
